Some people collect beer glasses as a hobby and others just like the look and the shape of beer glasses. What ever your reason to spark an interest in beer glasses you will be glad to know that there are several different designs to look for. Each design looks different and is a preference for different people. You can do your research online to find out which beer glasses are in demand and which ones are the most common. Keep your eye out when you go to rummage sales and estate sales because some people may not be aware of the value in their glasses.
*Pint Glass: This type of beer glass holds one pint of beer. It can come in different shapes and designs such as a flared top, jug and more.
*Beer Stein: This is a traditional look glass used to drink beer in. These glasses are unusual compared to the regular glass look. They come with a hinged lid that is controlled by a lever at the thumb. The reason for the lid was during the Black Plague. The lid kept any flies that might be diseased from entering into the glass of beer.
*Pilsner Glass: These glasses are usually compared to the wheat glasses. But a true Pilsner glass can be identified by the fact that unlike the wheat glass they do not have any curves in the glass.
*Wheat Glass: This was a German glass used to serve wheat beer. It is taller than the pint glass but it is narrow toward the bottom. The top of the glass is wider which leaves enough room for the foam.
*Tulip Glass: This glass is not for tulips. This type of glass has a lip around the top which gives it a distinct look.
*Flute Glass: The clear glass look allows the drinker to see the carbonation inside the drink. The flute glass can be identified by a narrow shape from top to bottom.
*Goblets: These are stemmed glasses but they are great for sipping beer. The goblets are a thin glass which look fragile but can hold some of the heaviest beer.
Each glass can be found all around the world. For example, the Tulip glass can be found where Belgian ales are sold. There are no certain rules that say each beer will have a different glass.
Starting a beer glass collection is fun and easy to do. Find one of each listed above to start your collection on the right foot. Now that you know what each one looks like you will be able to start your collection. If you check around you would be surprised at how many friends and family have some type of an assortment of beer glasses in their home. They may not use them anymore but they just can't let them go. There won’t be a lot of money involved in your collection but it will be very satisfying to you over the years as you watch your collection grow.
