Have you been dreaming about creating a fabulous bar at home? Maybe you already have an idea in your head of how you want it to look. You can probably see the type of wood in the bar, and the exact type of pub tables and bar stools that you want to have. Do you love the look of an old English pub? Or an Italian café? Maybe you’d rather have your dream bar decorated in a retro 50’s style with lots of sleek chrome and glass. There are a lot of different ways that you can decorate your bar and a lot of little decorating tools that you can use to create the perfect bar. But when you think about your perfect home bar have you thought about what beer faucets you want?
There are three main styles of beer faucets. There are American style beer faucets, European style beer faucets and special faucets that are mainly for pouring stouts, ales and lagers. If you plan on having several different types of beers at your home bar like some American beers, some European beers, and maybe a stout or two then you should invest in all three types of beer faucets. Do the types of beer faucets that you use really have an impact on the taste of the beer? Actually the beer faucets do make a difference, so the type of beer faucets that you choose should correspond to the types of beer that you plan to stock in your home bar.
Beer faucets of all three types are available in a wide range of decorate and plain styles although almost all of them are stainless steel. Some of the European beer faucets have gold plating which gives them a decorative look but the base of the faucet is stainless steel. Beer faucets are usually not that expensive, unless they are gold plated. Some even cost less than $20 so you can try out a few different styles, install them on your taps, live with them for awhile and see what style matched your bar the best. If you want to redo your bar and change the décor you can change the beer faucets pretty cheaply which makes it easier to change the décor of the bar if you get sick of the one you have or if you move and you have to adjust the design to the new space.
It’s easy to overlook how important beer faucets are but they are just as important as the keg setup that you have and even the beer that you choose. The taste of the beer can be directly impacted by the type of beer faucets that you choose and whether or not you clean them regularly. Make sure that you clean and sanitize your beer faucets on a regular basis. Just running a little hot water over your beer faucets each day can help prevent the buildup of yeast and debris in the faucets so if you want to make it easier to clean the faucets get in the habit of rinsing them with water after each use.
